The Feeling’s Mutual
The final lecture of the kickoff semester of the Being Human Series ended with Wendy Raymond’s talk, The Feeling’s Mutual: The Continuum of Humans in Community. What does it mean to be human? Dean Raymond tossed the question right back at us, questioning the question itself— why ask what it means to be human, when the more interesting question to her is,
what does it mean to be humane?
As the Davidson College statement of purpose boldly and clearly asserts,
The primary purpose of Davidson College is to assist students in developing humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service.
So, what do you think it means to be humane? And how does our humane-ness relate to our human-ness? Be part of the conversation. Listen. Comment. Engage.
